In the story we refer to as The Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37), we often focus on the parable itself rather than the context in which Jesus is sharing the parable. Pastor Nate reminds us that Jesus is answering a Torah lawyer, a rule follower, who asks the question, "who is my neighbor?"

Upon completing the now familiar story, Jesus returns the question, "Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?" In essence, instead of telling the lawyer who his neighbor is, Jesus asked the lawyer what kind of neighbor is he himself being and becoming.
