Free at Last

We live in a world teeming with danger and threats.  There's so much to be afraid of, so much to worry about, so much to make us anxious and paranoid.  Some of these fears are large scale:  Is the world getting more violent?  Will there be another terrorist attack?  Will the economy ever recover?  Some of these fears are more personal, but just as terrifying:  Is my marriage over?  Will my child be okay?  How will we be able to afford college?  Why am I so depressed, and will I ever get out of this?

Fear enslaves us.  Whether they're big fears or little fears, their cumulative effect is that they put us in chains and press us down.  Fear keeps us from being fully alive.  Fear is not what God has in mind for us.  The Apostle Paul puts it this way in his letter to the Galatians: "Christ has set us free to live a free life.  So take your stand!  Never again let anyone put a harness of slavery on you" (Galatians 5:1-2, The Message).

In this sermon series on the book of Galatians, amidst the clamor and burden of the chains that weigh us down, we'll hear the Holy Spirit call out through the poignant words of St. Paul a resounding message of Resurrection hope and freedom: "In Christ, we can all be free at last!"
